…and then there was one.
17 years of homeschooling and counting. Lord willing it will be 22 years when I fold my hands on this phase of my life. I’d like to say I have all the answers, but I don’t. I’d like to say that everyday when I wake up a perfect homeschooling day unrolls, but it doesn’t. Just like the first 17 years, it is a day-by-day process.
Though there is one homeschooling tool that rises above all the rest, the perfect answer and solution…and that is prayer to the One who knows and loves our children more than we can ever dream. As the Scripture reveals, we make our plans, but the Lord directs our steps. (Proverbs 16:9) And certainly our steps are directed through prayer.
Daily prayers for our children are sometimes hard to muster as we get bogged down in the daily grind. I have found a prayer booklet helpful in keeping me focused on good things to ask of the Lord.
Lord God, I believe that our son has been “fearfully and wonderfully made.” I confess that Your hand covered our son in the womb and that Your hand will cover him all the days of his life. I believe that You have formed our son’s “inward parts” . I rest in this truth and pray that You will continue to involve Yourself in the soulish and spiritual development of our son, just as You involved Yourself in his physical development in the womb. Finally, I confess that the future of our child is not up to chance; You have a plan for him. I praise You for causing it to unfold perfectly according to Your pleasure and predetermined purpose. Such knowledge is so wonderful; it moves my heart to worship You, O Lord of the past, present, and future. I declare victory in advance. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
